HALINÁ Modern Filipino Kitchen + Bar: A Straight Run West Along Hastings

Hastings Street carries on past Boundary Road into Burnaby, so for much of Burnaby, getting to Halina means following one familiar road west to Vancouver’s Hastings-Sunrise neighbourhood. Waiting at the other end is a modern Filipino kitchen and bar that reworks classic dishes with careful technique and serves them in a room built for big, lively tables.

Four Friends and a Takeout Counter

Before the dining room on East Hastings, there was Bigboy’s Chigs To-Go, a small takeout and catering business started by four friends who loved Filipino food. Halina is the restaurant that idea grew into, with a kitchen that blends Filipino tradition and Canadian ingredients.

The name is a Tagalog word of invitation, roughly “come”, and the restaurant leans into it: the goal is a room where first-timers and lifelong fans of Filipino food both feel at home.
